SERBIAN LYRICS
Hej Sloveni, još 'te živi
duh naših dedova,
dok za narod srce bije
njihovih sinova.
Živi, živi duh slovenski
živet ce vekov'ma
zalud preti ponor pakla
zalud vatra groma.
Nek se sada i nad nama
burom sve raznese
stena puca, dub se lama,
zemlja nek se trese.
Mi stojimo postojano
kano klisurine
proklet bio izdajica
svoje domovine.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Hey Slavs! our grandfathers' word still lives,
As long as their sons' heart beats for the people.
It lives, the spirit of Slavs lives, it will live for centuries,
The abyss of hell threatens in vain, the fire of thunder is in vain.
Now let everything above us be carried away by the bura.
The rock cracks, the oak breaks, let the ground shake.
We stand steadfastly like cliffs;
Let the traitor of his homeland be damned!

Yugoslavia (Jugoslavija in all South Slavic languages, Југославија in Serbian and Macedonian Cyrillic) is a term used for the three separate political entities that existed during most of the 20th century on the Balkan Peninsula in Europe. Translated, the name means Land of the South Slavs (jug means south ).
The Kingdom of Yugoslavia, also known as the First Yugoslavia, was a kingdom formed in December 1, 1918, which was originally formed as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. It was re-named on January 6, 1929 by King Alexander I. It was invaded on April 6, 1941 by the Axis powers. Capitulating only 11 days later, it ceased to exist on April 17, 1941.
The Second Yugoslavia was a Socialist state established immediately after World War II in November 29, 1945 as the succesor state to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It existed under various names. Proclaimed as the Democratic Federation of Yugoslavia (DFY) in 1943 it changed its name to the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia (FPRY) in 1946. In 1963 it would again change its name to the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and would exist under this name until its death following the Yugoslav Wars.
The declaration of independence and seccesion by most of the constituent republics of SFRY led to the formation of a federation named the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) in 1992 on the territory of the two remaining republics of Serbia (including the autonomous provinces of Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metohija) and Montenegro. On February 4, 2003, the name Yugoslavia was officially abolished when the state transformed into a loose commonwealth called Serbia and Montenegro. After a successful referendum in the republic, Montenegro officially declared its independence on June 3, 2006, while Serbia declared independence on June 5, thereby ending the last remnants of the former Yugoslav federation.
